Preparing for your visit
We offer a range of activities and extra-mural events to build upon your visit to the Historial.
An internationally-respected historical institution, the museum helps us to better understand this global conflict, combining stories from the front with glimpses of life away from the battlefield, interweaving the perspectives of the three main warring parties on the Western Front.
Activities
Mystery at the museum (duration: 90 mins – 2 hours): pupils work independently using the teaching materials provided by our Educational Dept. Teachers are responsible for selecting, downloading and printing the documents best suited to their classes (the Historial does not provide photocopies).
Field visits: Field visits are designed to complement and build upon your visit to the museum.
The Remembrance Tour : is a half-day tour which takes in the most emblematic sites of the Battle of the Somme. Each group is accompanied by a guide from the Historial. The tour generally makes three stops: the Lochnagar mine crater, the Newfoundland Memorial at Beaumont-Hamel, and the Thiepval Monument.
The Reconstruction Circuit around Péronne (duration: 1 – 1.5 hours) allows visitors to take the tour at their own pace using the materials provided by our Educational Department (maps, questions and answers).
